Casting Aluminum Snowflakes

We wanted to create some aluminum snowflakes to hang on our holiday trees. First we created the positive out of plywood, then pressed it into Petrobond (which is a product name for oil sand), and then fired up the furnace, melted the aluminum, and poured it into the mold. It did make impressions of snowflakes but further explorations were necessary. As you will see in the video, our explorations led us out of the realm of holiday festivals and into the magical world of floating resin cups.
