Inspired by this post over at Cool Tools, I ask members of the Omaha Maker Group what their “4” favorite tools were. The results, sorted by category (not person) are below.
Tools that Cut
- Channellock 436 Diagonal Cutters

- Victorinox – Cybertool 34 Swiss Army Knife
Tools that Don’t
- Basic “4 in 1” Screwdriver
- NiteIze KMT-11-R3 DoohicKey
- Stubby Auger bit set
- Faucet wrench combo tool
- Flexible Hose Clamp Pliers
- 1-2-3 Blocks
- DEWALT DCF885B 20-Volt MAX Impact Driver

- Harbor Freight folding led light
- Cat Rechargable LED Work Light
Writing (and tape)
- Rocketbook Everlast notebook
- PILOT Precise V5 RT
- 1.3mm Mechanical Pencils (I hate messing with traditional carpenter’s pencils, and these chunky mechanical ones fill pretty much the same role)
- Incra Precision Marking Ruler
- Sneaky “extra” item: that ruler is no better than a $5 one without a 0.5mm mechanical pencil.
- 1″ Gaffers Tape
Art
- Paint shapers for scuplting polymer clay
- Bendy 8 inch steel blade
- Babylock Esante Ese2 sewing and embroidery machine (Not Available)
- Musician’s Reusable Ear Plugs (These are really handy, because they diminish loud noises without obstructing background music or conversation)
